Iowa’s Health Benefit Exchange Decision
The state of Iowa has opted to partner with the Department of Health and Human Services to form and operate their health insurance exchange. Iowa is currently deciding how to implement their exchange. The state exchange is to be operational by October of 2013.
The primary state website for exchange information is located at: http://www.insuranceinfoexchange.iowa.gov
As a partner relationship with the HHS, Iowa will house several components of the exchange operating criteria under the HHS umbrella. Private insurance options and other components will be redirected to the HHS website from the state website and users will choose the “Iowa” dropdown to find health insurance information for Iowa residents.
Exchange Criteria and Resources
The basic template is up with the necessary components required to meet the Affordable Care Act requirements, and the website will be built out as requirements are developed and implemented.
Public enrollment is not currently available through the state website nor can insurance currently be purchased through the website. Public option information is available on the site for Iowa residents and links are provided to the applicable agencies for enrollment. The site is operating as a component of the Iowa Insurance Division.
